Domain A (Promotion of Research Integration)
  Takayuki Hirano, Domain A Leader

Based on the interim research project review, we have changed our research operating method, which tended to emphasize the originality of each project. As a result, Domain A has been established to further promote research integration in the second phase. The aim of this domain is literally to "promote integration” of various collaborative research projects, in particular, for the two core objectives: establishment of Political Science for Welfare Society Development; and establishment of the AsianResearchCenter. The domain carries the great significance as it is to provide a systematic framework for Welfare Society Development Study as the final product of such research integration.
However, Domain A is not responsible for integrating all research. As shown in the figure “Integration of Welfare Society Development,” Comparative Studies between Korea and Japan in Domain C, and the Social Exclusion Studies included in Domain B are carried out through the collaboration of their own individual study groups. The key to integrating research in Domain A is to cultivate human resources who would contribute in the development of the welfare society. Thus Domain A has the following three subcategories: Domain A-1 takes the initiative for overall research integration; Domain A-2 cultivates human resources for welfare society formation in Japan; and Domain A-3 cultivates human resource for welfare society formation in Southeast Asia.

1.Domain A-1: Research into the Establishment of Welfare Society Development Study

Research integration promotion carried out in Domain A-1 aims at reviewing the framework for systematizing Welfare Society Development Study, mainly through making the basic concept of welfare society development more concrete. As a practical experiment in welfare society development, we will administer the Taketoyo-cho Care Prevention Intervention Project from the viewpoint of research integration.

2.Domain A-2: Human Resource Cultivation for Welfare Society Development in Japan

Domain A-2 focuses on reorganizing the contents of the past human resource cultivation programs concerning welfare society development that have been used in projects concerning welfare in peripheral mountain regions. It also aims at developing educational materials and training methods. These aims will be achieved by reviewing and studying the series of research projects conducted in Mogami-cho in YamagataPrefecture, and Saku-shi and its vicinities in NaganoPrefecture.

3.Domain A-3: Human Resource Cultivation for Welfare Society Development in Southeast and South Asia

Domain A-3 focuses on establishing systematic welfare society development human resource cultivation in the Philippines, Malaysia,Sri Lanka, and India. This will be achieved by providing support to develop educational systems, materials, and programs that support such human resource cultivation. Support also includes a project to dispatch educational and research specialists in the fields of welfare policy and societal development.
